“…because everything
is too unclean
for the immaculate foot of the cat.”
This is what poet Pablo Neruda says in his poem ‘Ode to the Cat’.
But maybe such a place does exist on the human body, and that’s our solar plexus or in Oriental tradition, the Dan Tian.
This is how the idea of a catlike paw-shaped jewel was first conceived. The object is even more precious due to its almost 1:1 size of a cat paw. It does not have a back side, but two front sides and can turn around on itself.
It’s a remarkable pendant which, both in the diamond-encrusted version and in the coral-paste version, gently lays the precious paws on our body thus conveying part of that innocence which the poet perceived too in the paws of a cat.
Daymonilia began as several sketches and drawings by hand. Slowly emerging into its final form through trials in precious metals. Every time it is made by hand in Naples following the ancient and never worn-out tradition of Neapolitan goldsmiths. Paola Capuozzo is the master goldsmith we have chosen to give birth to this unique piece.
Why?
Animals and us.
So many things we have learned from animals, through observation, imitation and study. So much gratitude we owe them rather than the torture and mistreatment we give them, compared to which eating their flesh would be the lesser of two evils.
dai CREATORI di
We ought to worship them with offerings and gifts, smiles and care.
We ought to host, admire and thank them.
Whereas, we have gone through centuries of hunting, farming, slaughter, experimentation, fur- making and every part of animals has been used in ornaments, clothes, furniture and hairbands. We have incarcerated, offended and separated them from their mothers, while they were still dependent on them and whilst also hurting and torturing them.
All of this because animals can’t speak and defend themselves with words, or at least this is what we believe. But nothing remains without consequences.
Daymonilia jewels represent offerings showing gratitude and respect, contrary to the generalised forgetfulness of what we owe animals.
Mendittorosa, through its vegan stance and with Daymon, has already expressed an unmistakable opinion, and now Daymonilia proposes Vegan Luxury not only for cat lovers but for all of those who, even in the luxury of a jewel, want to find transparency and coherence. Choosing and purchasing such an object is akin to acting concretely and coherently against animal mistreatment.
Periodically economic means are transferred to the Italian NGO called LAV as a contribution towards the maintenance of Terra LAV and especially the servicing of the area dedicated to the care of big cats. Here Lions and Tigers are hosted after being rescued from horrible circuses, illegal trade or renting out for the film industry and private events. This will hopefully help these great animals to regain a kind of freedom and for sure some dignity.
